Punished?

Not punished, but helped to see the Traditional Biblical position.

This seems like the UMC ending

This feels like if we don't get out the way we flee to the WCA and if we win then the progressive, liberal, and moderate congregations can move on into smaller weaker denominations. It seems like either way the denomination is destroyed. I don't see how this article provides ANY comfort that everything won't end. I keep trying to find Christ in all of this but all I get is politics and not polity.

A reasonable request

If you want to be a United Methodist here are the parameters within which we function. If you cannot function within these parameters, then here are your options. That is exactly how John Wesley functioned when Methodism was brought into existence. Methodism is in existence because John Wesley left the Fetter Lane Society over theological differences and set up his own shop at the Foundry. Methodism was born of schism. It does a great disservice to John Wesley and what he did to try and keep the church together when there is no unifying theology.

Notable Quotes

"My wish is that, one day, formal education will pay attention to the education of the heart, teaching love, compassion, justice, forgiveness, mindfulness, tolerance and peace. This education is necessary, from kindergarten to secondary schools and universities. I mean social, emotional and ethical learning. We need a worldwide initiative for educating heart and mind in this modern age."

 – HH The Dalai Lama, interviewed in the Los Angeles Times

"[Author Vincent Strudwick] reimagines church as catalyst, transfiguring an egoistic society back to an altruistic one, celebrating a God who is as weak as water, but as irresistible as a river. Decisions should be taken at the lowest possible grass-roots level, dialogue superseding proclamation, and embodiment replacing autocracy.

– The Rt. Rev. David Wilbourne, Assistant Bishop of Llandaff in the Church of England, reviewing Strudwick's book: "The Naked God: Wrestling for a Grace-ful Humanity" in Church Times.
