My response

I am also part of the Rio Texas Conference and I totally disagree with the beliefs of these 5 churches. Since this debacle started in the 1970's, every General Conference has come up with the correct answer when it comes to God's intention when it comes to sexuality and marriage. I respect that these people disagree with my beliefs. If these churches truly feel muzzled, then they should do the honorable thing and leave the UMC. The sexuality question is not what is tearing the church apart, it is people like these who refuse to respect how the church is designed to function--and that is that General Conference has the final say. In fact, General Conference will have the final say on this matter in 2019. But all that is meaningless to these people who think they have all the correct answers and everybody who disagrees with them is wrong.

"When Jesus defined his ministry, he made liberating the captive a focus of his message. Jesus’ gospel is for slave and for the free (Galatians 3:28). It is meant to have a component of liberation. The gospel calls us to advocate for a more just world–to be a voice for the voiceless."
