none church plan

I affirm UM-INSIGHT for publishing Tim's piece as a gesture toward dealing with the confirmation bias that skewers the capacity for true dialogue and healthy disagreement. Lord knows conservative/traditional folks have their issues and flaws, and can begin self-criticism far beyond where more predictably liberal critics leave off. Tim points out a perception shared by most conservatives and numerous moderates, that the Connectional table effort of 2012-16, and even the special commission to review the issue in the 1990's consisted of leadership dealing from a marked deck spun in favor of changing church teaching. The NCJ is sponsoring a special time for its delegates in September. No surprise and no objection if the One Church plan is presented, explained, defended. BIG issue if that event comes across as an effort to game the process. If all 3 proposals are given clear and fair presentation, healthy and insightful discussion will reap rich fruit. Lop-sided spin...and Tim's critique applies.

Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove "When Jesus said, 'I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly' in John 10:10, he wasn’t thinking about a victory for those who have used religion to fight back against the gains of the civil rights movement. Jesus was inviting all of us to work together for the vision at the heart of that movement — a beloved community where all people created in God’s image can thrive."
