Donations Fill Tables

It's often been said that when United Methodists become aware of a need, they respond with unbridled generosity. That's certainly true of the response to aid those recently flooded out and storm-damaged in Iowa.
The Rev. Catie Newman, disaster response coordinator for the Iowa Annual Conference, sent an email this week asking United Methodists to hold off on donations until Hope UMC in Marshalltown, Iowa, the recovery site, can distribute what has already been given.
"We have had so many generous donations at Hope UM Church in Marshalltown! The church is packed full with totes, clothing, and other necessities for those affected by the storms.
"In fact, the church is so full that the staff is asking that people please hold on to their donations for now while they distribute what has already been given. Once they make room, we will update you on when you can begin delivering more.
"Thank you again for your incredible generosity! You are truly Difference Makers!"
Some 27 tornadoes roared across central Iowa on July 19, heavily damaging areas around Marshalltown and Bondurant. The tornadoes came after a series of heavy rainstorms in late June and early July, leaving the state already sodden.
