Minor differences

The difference between crucifixion and illusion is not a minor one. It goes to the very core of our Christian faith. By spelling it as “crucifiction” the author is mocking the beliefs of committed Christians. If there are more people like him within The UMC then our denomination is indeed split.

Minor indeed

Gnosticism was... and still is... heretical. It's not a matter of minor differences within the extended family, which is precisely why John so strongly warns against following false teachers. Jesus' incarnation is by no means peripheral but absolutely central to Christian teaching.
