Bishops' Action Leads to Questions

Moving Sideways

Prior to the initial 'fight' in General Convention, the popular choices regarding sexuality were essentially: status quo, full inclusion, one/connectional church.

After General Convention the essential options were: status quo, full inclusion, one/connectional church.

After The Way Forward Commission, the essential options were: status quo, full inclusion (still by popular demand), one/connectional church.

After the Bishop review: status quo, full inclusion (by popular demand), one/connectional church.

I see no progress. What I do see is a lot of wasted time and money, as the Powers That Be continue to avoid the topic of GLBT inclusion.

Only two things are clear: bigotry persists in the UMC, and white males still rule.

Bishops' action

If the bishops do not know what they agreed to do how can they explain it to the rest of us? A leadership failure on their part. If the special GC goes sideways we will have a real mess to contend with at GC 2020.

Notable Quotes

"Christ told us specifically where He would be found and where we were to worship Him as Christians until He came in glory: Christ is in the people who need our help. Christ is in hungry and thirsty people; in people without adequate clothing and shelter; in people who are strangers in a strange land and people who are imprisoned. Any so-called Christianity that ignores or, God forbid, abuses such people is pernicious heresy from the pit of hell. You spit on the Body of Christ in the Chalice when you abuse Him in the body of your neighbor."
