John Wesley wrote the Catholic Spirit

With levels of Christian unity--there were different levels of affection for Christians that was dependent on how theologically people were in step with each other. He did this because he understood that we live in a world dominated by human brokenness. He never strove for a utopia right here and right now, he created space where people could live a life centered in God regardless of their circumstances. Any connection early Methodism had was about people deciding to connect themselves to John Wesley and his particular set of beliefs. And it was the lives of these particular people who were his number one priority.

Notable Quotes

"Fundamentalist Christians have moved the theological needle so far to the right that the Gospel is said by them to be a 'progressive agenda.' It's not – it's the Gospel. We must keep preaching Jesus' message of the Kingdom of God (over against the kingdoms of this world) rooted in love (not legalism) and aimed toward reconciliation (not division). The Pharisees alleged Jesus' message was a 'liberal agenda.' It wasn't – it was the Gospel."

– The Rev. Dr. Steve Harper in a Facebook post.
