FORT MYERS, Fla. – Cypress Lake United Methodist Church's tehcnical team had a problem last August: They couldn't get the church's Sunday worship service to livestream over the Internet. Transmissions slowed and some functions stopped working, said Cyndy Cook, Church Administrator f.
The church called local providers, but they weren't able to solve the problem. They suggested buying new equipment.
Then Ryan Penrose and Michael Dunn of the information technology unit at the General Council on Finance and Administration arrived at Cypress Lake UMC for a scheduled IT assessment. Penrose and Dunn looked over Cypress Lake's system and Dunn quickly pinpointed the problem – a bad server, or computer unit. Thanks to Penrose and Dunn, Cypress Lake soon fixed its problem for a lot less than buying an entire new system.
Derek Preston, Chief Information Officer for GCFA said, “Each member of our IT team is dedicated to finding solutions that work for each of our customers. When Ryan and Michael worked with Cypress Lake, the important issue was to return to them the service they had so that they can continue their ministry in the community.”
Ms. Cook adds “We felt totally confident in the information [Michael Dunn] provided and the solutions he proposed because we were all on the same team – doing the work of making disciples (and yes, that involves technology!)…We are so thankful for the technological competency of the IT staff at GCFA, but we especially appreciate their kindness and dedication.”
