The trial of suspended Bishop Minerva Carcaño has been moved to the headquarters of Wespath Benefits and Investments, the pensions agency of The United Methodist Church in Glenview, Ill., in the North Central Jurisdiction. The trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 19.
Retired Bishop Alfred W. Gwinn will preside. According to an Aug. 4 announcement, Bishop Frank Beard, president of the North Central Jurisdictional College of Bishops, will assist bishops in the jurisdiction with choosing a pool of 50 potential jurors.
So far, the actual charges against Bishop Carcaño have not been made public. The trial stems from complaints made against the bishop in March, 2022, leading to an unprecedented suspension from active ministry since then.
