United Methodists Poised to Reject Boy Scouts’ Bankruptcy Plan

The statement that churches have been "left off" of BSA insurance is not true. Since 1976, all BSA "charter partners" (including UMC churches) have been named co-insureds on BSA general liability insurance. There are nuanced issues about the bankruptcy plan where reasonable minds can differ, but the blanket statement that churches were "left off of BSA's insurance" is not one of them. Further, the current plan gives all charter partners substantial protections. If no plan is confirmed, the churches will have no negotiated protections and can expect hundreds if not thousands of lawsuits.
