God Cannot Become Present

How true

Our prayer should be that we are awakened to God's presence... it's we who too often grow numb to God's glorious and never-failing presence in our midst.

How about the idea that the 'invocation' is a reminder to each of us that God is the subject, God is the object, God IS the audience and that all of our efforts and energies should focus on the omnipresence of God; we just need to remind ourselves and conduct ourselves accordingly?

Yes please - God is the focus!

That's well-said, in normal life it's really easy to ignore God, yes he will be present wherever he wishes to exist -- but if we don't acknowledge that we WANT him to be with us, we are more likely to forget why we have gathered!!
