Their goal was enough resources – either money or books – to give out 1,000 books to help boost child literacy. Instead, the campaign organized by deacons, diaconal ministers, and bishop's spouse Julie Bard totaled $7,889.11, or the equivalent of 2,631 brand new books
The book collection too place during two days of the 2018 Michigan Annual Conference in Traverse City. Through a partnership with the Scholastic Literacy Partnership program, books have been sent to 16 churches, schools, and organizations around Michigan to be given away for free.
