Why Don't We Call God 'They' Instead of 'He'?

The pesky power of pronouns...

If I've understood the question correctly, I believe the fundamental difference between referring to God in the third person plural vis-a-vis the first person singular is the difference between Christian orthodoxy and Modalism or Sabellianism. This is an all-to-common heresy to which many of we preachers and teachers succumb when attempting (unsuccessfully) to explain that which cannot be explained, namely the mystery of the Trinity.

A view from the pew

I recently had a lesson in what all I did not know and understand about basic orthodox Christianity. Its teachings have not had a prominent place in the United Methodist Church for a very long time. You are chasing down an inconsequential rabbit trail. I suggest you read The Heidelberg Catechism and these two books about it: "Body & Soul" by M. Craig Barnes and "The Good News We Almost Forgot" by Kevin DeYoung. After you read them, decide how helpful your question is.
