Full Communion

I left the Episcopal Church and joined The UMC. It was a good move. Why we are even attempting to engage in full communion with the TEC is a mystery to me. Let them go their way and we go ours. I see no benefit to any of these Communion discussions.

methodist episcopal response to GC19

Worship attendance has dropped by 25% in TEC over the past decade. Median age of a member has increased. Baptisms have declined significantly as have the number of weddings conducted, even after affirming same sex marriage. TEC is in suspended fellowship from the World Anglican Communion. More anglicans show up for worship each week in Nigeria (2M+) than is the membership of the US church. That's on the one hand. On the other hand...They would welcome disaffected UM clergy and laity to 'return home,' recalling our own John Wesley never left nor encouraged others to leave the Anglican fold. And they have the best retirement package for clergy of any church on earth. They aren't into stealing sheep but since you can't steal contented sheep, the welcome would be genuine for those who make a shift. Social conscience, rich liturgy and a clear commitment to take the Bible 'seriously but not literally' would make it a good home for some uneasy with the UM direction.

No "return home"

Both the Methodist Episcopal Church and the The Episcopal Church were birthed by the Church of England; they were each established when the American colonies gained their independence from Great Britain. A "return home" for UMs would not be to the U.S.-based TEC because no Methodist bodies were ever a part of it.
