On June 25th, reports surfaced of a father, Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez, who died with his 23-month-old daughter, Valeria, as they tried to cross from Mexico to the United States and were found lying face down in the muddy water along the banks of the Rio Grande. At the same time, the Trump administration continues to use punitive, violent policies that instill fear in immigrant communities and create chaos.
Members of Congress are home from now until July 7th, so right now is a critical time to call for a compassionate response to immigrants and asylum seekers, urge Congress to reduce funds for immigration detention, deportation, and border militarization, tell our national leaders to hold the administration accountable for its abusive practices. Please check out the Interfaith Congressional Recess Toolkit for the top 5 ways to take action this week!
