Concert Across America
University Circle United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, will hold a session of The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
The program will include The Distinguished Gentleman of Spoken Word, Karamu, and the Duffy Liturgical Dance Ensemble. The church is located at1919 East 107th Street in Cleveland.
Started in 2016, The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence is a volunteer effort to focus attention on the deaths and damage caused by gun violence in the United States. According to the group's website, its mission is "to remember the tremendous loss of life that gun violence has cost our communities. And while it’s primarily a day of awareness, local organizers can choose to fundraise for a designated local gun violence prevention (GVP) partner or for a local domestic violence shelter as one of its goals. We aim to make gun violence prevention the #1 voting issue in the 2018 elections."
Faith-based events such as that planned at University Circle UMC may include a time of remembrance for local gun violence victims, the group's national website said.
This year, concerts are taking place from Sept. 20 to Sept. 30. The anchor event will take place in Parkland, Florida, on Sept. 30.
