United Methodists are being encouraged to participate in an ecumenical worship and march calling for humane treatment of immigrants scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25.
“Faithful Resistance: A Public Witness for Immigrant Justice” is happening in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, February 25. The day will begin at 10AM ET with worship, followed by a prayerful march to the U.S. Capitol and afternoon congressional visits.
Denominational agencies supporting the event include the General Board of Church and Society, the General Commission on Religion and Race, United Methodist Committee on Relief and United Women in Faith. UMC-allied organizations also participating include Immigration Law and Justice Network, a ministry founded and supported by the General Board of Global Ministries, and Church World Service, an ecumenical ministry that aids in refugee resettlement.
United Methodists are encouraged to attend in-person, follow the event on social media or hold simultaneous events in their local areas. A press release on the Resource UMC website says, “This is an opportunity to show solidarity for immigrants and call upon Christians everywhere to live out Christ's call on all of us to ‘welcome the stranger.’"
