General Conference Roundup: Global Health

Global HIV and AIDS

Why does this "roundup" seem to exclude the emphasis at General Conference on the continuing issue of HIV and AIDS globally? Beginning with a one-day pre-conference, with an opening day offering for AIDS, legislation reauthorizing the United Methodist Global AIDS Fund for eight more years, hand-outs on the streets, a vigil for persons who died of AIDS, and a plenary presentation on UMGAF, an effort persistently was made to remind United Methodists that "AIDS is not over yet." I guess we failed to convey that message to everyone! Addressing global health must include HIV and AIDS whether the church wants to or not. Actually it is one concern that United Methodists globally share.
