Good News though

How I see it is this. GC is next year. New GC, new fight. We can also encourage our pastors and Bishops in the more progressive conferences to not leave and participate in active civil disobedience. They can't kick us all out of the denomination. At first I was just gonna leave and find a new home. But this is my home. I have children who who are LGTBQ who were baptized within the church. At some point a line needs to be drawn. If there are people out there who choose discrimination we don't have to countenance them. We can choose to fight. They don't have the votes to force us out. There are many things in the Bible that are endorsed or not endorsed that we find abhorrent, illegal, and unjust today. And Paul didn't die on the cross for my sins. We need to put on the Armour of Christ and choose to fight.

Traditional Plan unconstitutionally.

This is it. Why do you think the SGAUMC is tweeting so hard? They want their members to get a play by play. We took care of pensions. They are gone. Likely, 2 or 3 conferences in Texas and then whoever else wants to go.

Thank you.

I appreciate you removing the statement regarding the "delegates have spoken and the UMC has just died: gays are irredeemably bad, evil and unacceptable." My news reader has not updated, but this web version doesn't appear to have that statement. I thought it was a very uncharitable interpretation of yesterday's events. I think it is an interpretation that may be present in the church. However, I don't think its a majority position of the 56%, or it shouldn't. I know I don't support people telling a lesbian or gay person that they are an abomination. The BOD strictly doesn't support that. I'm committed to being in relation with those that have this abomination attitude and to try and convince them that that's the wrong approach. I'm not willing to tell them that they have to accept a gay preacher. And I find the argument that the One Church Plan will cause the church to lose conservative members such that that is the reality is a very real possibility.

Thank you for your charity in removing this statement.

I appreciate your protectiveness of the LGBTQ persons

I just wish you could start believing that traditionalists are not " irredeemably bad, evil and unacceptable" simply because they do not agree with you.

I know you are disappointed

I know you are disappointed that the Holy Spirit has called General Conference to maintain our standards and understanding of God’s will. I appreciate you disagree with those provisions. You should consider joining an Episcopal or Presbyterian USA or Lutheran or Church of Christ congregation, as I expect doing so will lessen your bitterness. If the enforcement elements are deemed unconstitutional so that the UMC cannot reform itself, then I will agree the UMC is doomed as a human denomination and I will be leaving to find a new church home. I just can’t get so worked up over a human construct created in 1968 than I can a God construct created over 2000 years ago. I wish you best of luck in your faith journey and hope you find your way out of the “press box” though I’m not seeing much in the way of objective journalism vs. op ed pieces.

Everybody

Needs to realize and acknowledge what a disjointed dysfunctional mess the UMC has become. I recently read this definition of "being Methodist" on a non-UMC website that is observing this debacle: When 2 Methodist get together there are 3 opinions and a potluck. And it is absolutely accurate and it has made us into the worse kind of loose cannon: goodhearted people doing the best they know how without any consensus as to what it is we are supposed to be doing. And for the record LGBTQ people are not irredeemably bad or evil they are sinners just like me who are doing their best to live in a broken world. I just do not agree with their assessment of themselves. If there is anything have learned about classic Christianity it is that it is not about who I think that I am, it is about who God wants me to be and He provides the power and grace to get me there.
