Be honorable and resign

If you truly cannot honor your oath to abide by our Book of Discipline, why not do the honorable thing and resign your UMC credentials and move them to another denomination or go independent? Walk the walk rather than just talking the talk. What’s worth preserving more, your salary and benefits or your soul? I’m much more impressed by a baker who was willing to face the state trying to shut down his business rather than compromise his Christian principals than I am with clergy who “courageously” announce their defiance of our Book of Discipline while collecting their paycheck partially funded by contributions from those for whom they have contempt. If you want respect, do the honorable thing and remove yourself from a denomination whose Rules you believe to inconsistent with you understanding of God’s will.
