As a conservative, I very much respect John Wesley

Please do not use your understanding of him to make conservatives the whipping post in this fight. For starters, when you describe conservatives, you are describing fundamentalists and fundamentalists abound on both sides of the sexuality issue. Many conservatives have no intention of forcing our beliefs on anybody; we are content with the traditional stance re sexulaity. It was progressives who started this when they petitioned General Conference to change the church's stance on sexuality and refused to respect the answer that was consistently given, making this into the do or die issue for the church. And as this article proves, sexuality is only the presenting issue; there are deeper issues that divide us, including our perceptions of John Wesley.
