Good job on the United Methodist Insight newsletter of Sept.26, 2025, but there is still confusion and misunderstanding about our Christian duty in this time.
We need articles explaining the difference between resistance and encouraging violence. We need articles further explaining and clarifying the Trump and ICE aggressive and scary and threatening efforts in using Nazi-like tactics in arresting supposedly “illegal” immigrants. Yes, grandmothers and children, husbands and sons, and fathers and mothers may be “illegal immigrants,” and the administration has blended and reinforced the dangers of anyone illegal. They may have promised going after rapist and real criminals with serious crimes but it’s expanded to both the extreme criminal elements to the minor elements but bring illegal still, do they are arresting all!
We, the church, have preached welcoming the stranger and it’s helping but falling on administrative deaf ears as they see their job being threatened by our UMC resistance and nonprofit resistance. It’s wrong how they're doing it in our Christian eyes, but it is right in their “legal and protecting the country" view.
We need a national law changing the status of a selected group like the "Dreamers" or low-level illegal immigrants versus the high level of criminal immigrants most Americans and Christians want out too! We need to push Congress, push our President and push our country to a compassionate new law to “grandfather,” many in to stop this “Nazi-like,” arresting. Continue strengthening our borders and immigration courts and get the opposites together to dialogue and instititute a compassionate mechanism to arrest the truly illegal bad guys and show a national action to preserve our care for immigrants as they strengthen melting pot,” of pluralism.
We need to educate how to mix being prophetic with being practical!
