After just finishing two interims with churches that have been torn up by the disaffiliation process, I have done some writing to respond to some of their heartache. Over and over, I have heard people say they regret not speaking up (at all) or more forcefully when the decision-making was being done. They are all good people -- who recognized the adversarial nature of the moment and, although many of them have been United Methodists for a very long time, as they reflect, they were not exactly sure what to say....which means they were also unprepared to recognize the misinformation that was flooding the process.
So I developed a basic description of the UM Foundation of Faith. it has helped the people I wrote it for. If it can help anyone else (as I believe the flood of misinformation is not going to abate), you are welcome to share this.
