Eastertide blessings to you, my friend!
I have long been one of those Christians who talks about going “all in” for Jesus. In my early youth ministry days, I think a common phrase of mine was something like, “give every ounce of your life to the Lord.” I still believe that, quite strongly in fact, but I think it means something very differently to middle-aged me than it did to young-person me. Back then, I thought it meant that God had to always be my first thought…that no decision could be made, no word spoken, without first carefully consulting God’s will and glory. Older me has found that to be incredibly unsustainable, and not really all that life-giving for myself or anyone around me. Maybe it’s the gift of time that molds a relationship with God to feel less like a constant bid for approval and more of a kinship that trusts we’re in this together no matter what.
Occasionally I enjoy telling stories about my protagonists, John and Charles Wesley, as little kids, living under their super strict evangelical mother, Susanna. I feel like this week’s comic fits my 2023 goals of making incredibly stupid comics that make me laugh. Hope you enjoy!
