CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The largest United Methodist church in Chattanooga will not seek disaffiliation from the denomination after 81% of the congregation rejected the idea. The discernment over whether to leave came after The United Methodist Church voted earlier this year to allow LGBTQ people to fully participate in church life, removing the restrictions on same-gender marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ clergy. In 2022, Christ United Methodist Church reported more than 5,000 professing members. Andrew Schwartz reports.
