Grassroots opposition continues to swell to the proposed Connectional Table restructure for The United Methodist Church as the 2012 General Conference approaches.
The latest reaction comes in the form of a short petition that has been circulating through social media. As explained below, the petition is aimed at individual delegates themselves, rather than as legislation intended to revision part of the Book of Discipline, the collection of United Methodist doctrines and policies. Participants in the petition campaign seek to persuade delegates to reject the CT proposal in favor of crafting an organization based on the signers' visions for the church.
As a public service, United Methodist Insight presents the petition in total, and invites readers to post their visions for the church as Comments. This petition will be available online for the next 30 days, after which the responses will be collected, posted online as a printable document and forwarded via email to all delegates on the Insight mailing list.
