NASHVILLE, Tenn., August 19, 2016 – The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) is offering temporary financial relief to students and graduates facing flood devastation in Louisiana. This week, the Office of Loans and Scholarships reached out to students who have been affected by recent flooding to offer support and prayer.
“We are actively reaching out to borrowers in the southern Louisiana area who are currently in the repayment phase of their loans to ask if they need help,” said Allyson Collinsworth, executive director of loans and scholarships, GBHEM. “We are offering a temporary deferment with no interest accruing during that time. We want to assist students and graduates who have loan repayments on top of the burden of handling this unexpected and stressful situation.”
Students with United Methodist loans through GBHEM are encouraged to reach out to the Office of Loans and Scholarships if they have been affected by flooding in Louisiana, and find their present repayment to be financially difficult.
“We are more than willing to take the current circumstances into consideration and provide temporary assistance if needed,” adds Collinsworth. “Our prayer is that flood-affected students will have the resources they need to get through this difficult time.”
