NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) of The United Methodist Church has announced two new academic imprints: Foundery Books and New Room Books. Representing the rich diversity of the church, Foundery Books are accessibly written by Methodist/Wesleyan experts who emphasize church life and ministry. New Room Books is a peer-reviewed series that offers Methodist/Wesleyan scholars a way to share the benefits of their research.
“As the church’s leadership development agency, GBHEM envisions a new generation of Christian leaders who are characterized by intellectual excellence, moral and spiritual courage, and holiness of heart and life. The launch of Foundery Books and New Room Books is a step toward realizing that vision,” said Ken Yamada, interim associate general secretary, Division of Higher Education. “GBHEM is tasked with tending and growing the intellectual tradition of The United Methodist Church. These two new imprints will help the church embody the rigorous intellectual, evangelical spirit that John Wesley expected of all of the ‘people called Methodist.’”
In November, Foundery Books will release its first title, A Wesleyan Theology of the Eucharist: The Presence of God for Christian Life and Ministry by general editor Jason E. Vickers, PhD, Professor of Theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. Dr. Vickers is an elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, past president of the Wesleyan Theological Society, and current editor of the Wesleyan Theological Journal.
“The essays gathered in this volume bear witness to renewed interest among Wesleyan communities in this rich part of our heritage. More important, they provide encouragement and wisdom for reclaiming the centrality of Eucharist to Christian worship, nurture, and life,” says Randy L. Maddox, William Kellon Quick Professor of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies, Duke Divinity School.
