Love one another

May 14, 2023 – 6th Sunday of Easter John 14:15-21
After the resurrection, Jesus bids farewell to his disciples giving them a commandment that, in the name of the love that they have for him, they should keep his commands. And, upon fulfilling this petition he will protect them, console them, and he gives them a more wonderful promise. “16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.”
This promise makes me think of those difficult moments for the disciples when they were persecuted, arrested, or were fearfully hiding themselves from the Roman authorities. In the middle of this anxiety there was something in his heart that was beating – You are not alone, I am with you. I believe that the words of Jesus resounded en their minds and in their hearts strengthening them and filling them with hope and love.
I believe that, just like children nowadays feel protected by their parents, the disciples felt the same way after confronting the absence of Jesus in person since he had been raised and they were the only one that knew it. That same feeling of love, of loyalty to God for the disciples, is for every person today who is a believer and declares Jesus is their Lord and Savior, and that he lives in us. Especially in the most painful and vulnerable moments, he comes looking for those who are alive because he promise not to leave them orphaned. “18I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.”
It is impressive – the undying love of Jesus for his disciples and for every person that keeps his commandments and who shows him that they love him. It is like receiving a prize that has no price because your name will be recognized and your personhood will be loved by the Father, by the Son, and by the Holy Spirit. This invitation is for all of us, because generation after generation has passed and the words of Jesus continue to be remembered, and God’s self continues beating with all power and love for those who fulfill the commandment of love that Jesus teaches us with words and showed us with his own life. It will be repaid grandly.
And he asks us to represent him here on earth loving as he loved us, watching as he watches over us, and above all believing in him and carrying the light to the world declaring a living Christ who is alive among us. Although he declares in his Word that many people will not receive him, nor will they see him because they do not know him. But he will be able to show himself to you, brother/sister, if you search for him, if you follow him, and if you keep his commandments. “21They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.” This promise continues in force. Just accept it in your heart and keep the commandments of the Lord. Amen.

Después de la resurrección, Jesús se despide de sus discípulos encomendando un mandato que en nombre del amor que le tienen guarden sus mandamientos, y al cumplir con esta petición el los iba a proteger, a consolar, y les da la promesa más maravillosa 16 Y yo rogaré al Padre, y os dará otro Consolador, para que esté con vosotros para siempre: Esta promesa me hace pensar en aquellos momentos difícil de los discípulos cuando eran perseguidos, arrestados, o estaban con miedo escondiéndose de las autoridades romanas, enmedio de esa angustia había algo en su corazón que palpitaba no están solo yo estoy con ustedes. Creo que las Palabras de Jesus sonaban en sus mentes y en sus corazones fortaleciéndose y los llenaba de esperanza y de amor.
Yo creo que así como los niños hoy en día se sienten protegidos por sus padres, así se sentían los discípulos después de enfrentar la ausencia de Jesus en persona ya que Él había resucitado y ellos eran los únicos que lo sabían, ese mismo sentimiento de amor, de lealtad de Dios para los discípulos, es para toda persona que hoy en día es creyente y declara que Jesus es su señor y salvador y que vive en nosotros, especialmente en los momentos más dolorosos o vulnerables busca al que vive porque él prometió no dejarlos huérfanos. 18 No os dejaré huérfanos; vendré a vosotros.
Es impresionante el amor inagotable de Jesus por los discípulos y por toda persona que guarda sus mandamientos y le muestra que le ama, es como recibir un premio que no tiene precio porque tu nombre será reconocido y tu persona será amada por el Padre, por el Hijo y por el Espíritu Santo. Esta invitación es para todos nosotros, porque han pasado generaciones tras generaciones y se siguen recordando las palabras de Jesús y sigue palpitando Dios mismo con toda su fuerza y su amor, quien cumple el mandamiento de amor que Jesus nos enseña con palabras y nos mostró con su propia vida, será recompensado en grande, y nos pide que le representemos aquí en la tierra amando como él nos amó, mirando como él nos mira, y sobre todo creyendo en él y llevando la luz al mundo declarando en un Cristo vivo y que vive entre nosotros, aunque lo declara en su Palabra que muchas personas no lo recibirán, ni lo veran porque no lo conocen , pero sí podrá manifestarse a ti hermano, hermana si le recibes, si le buscas, si le sigues y si guardas sus mandamientos 21 El que tiene mis mandamientos, y los guarda, ése es el que me ama; y el que me ama, será amado por mi Padre, y yo le amaré, y me manifestaré a él. Esta promesa sigue vigente solamente acéptala en tu corazón y guarda los mandamientos del Señor. Amen.
