Feb. 4, 2024 – 5th Sunday after Epiphany
Isaiah 40:21-31; Psalm 147:1-11, 20c; 1 Cor. 9:16-23; Mark 1:29-39
He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:29-31.
The eagle is one of the most majestic birds on the planet and the incredible thing is that something in particular occurs to some of them at least once in their lives, and to others two or three times. They change their plumage. Very similar to the life of the eagles, in the life of the believer in Christ a process of a spiritual change of plumage will occur at one or several moments; this is characterized as a very special time in which our faith will be put to the test.
He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Throughout our lives similar situations happen to us. Either you make important decisions in your life or you die in the attempt, and because of that you feel paralyzed. Many times our fears and insecurities don’t permit us to find solutions that we need to follow, and to rise up like eagles.
It can also deal with resentments, the lack of self-esteem that clouds our sigh and the capacity of being objective with ourselves. We should remove memories that cause us pain. Only when we are free from the weight of the past will we be able to take advantage of the valuable result that a renewal always brings with it. And even so, we can identify what the things and the steps are that we have to take to realize that change. We do not find ourselves with sufficient force and capacity to do it ourselves. The Lord guarantees to his servants that he will give them the forces that they need to overcome any problem. “. . . but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength.” God gives strength to all that trust that he can and wants to help them.
Eagles take advantage of the air currents to elevate themselves and, when they find a current, they extend their wings and pass from one current to another. This permits them to stay in the air for hours and they consume very little energy in order to get to their destination. This example from nature helps us to understand all that the power of God can do to help people when the decide to rise up and persevere despite the circumstances that occurring en their lives.
“They shall run and not be weary.” The problems of life can affect our physical being as much as our emotional state. But, with the power of God, we can still continue on. That power gives us the ability to do the right thing, no matter the difficulties that arise due to things in our lives. This promise encourages all servants of God, since many Christians surrender at this point. But, if we decide to keep advancing toward our destination, we realize that the Lord will be waiting for us. There we will find ourselves with Rock of the centuries, the cornerstone on which we can rest so that we can be bathed in the light of his son Jesus Christ and be renewed like eagles.
“[They] shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31).
In the gospel of Mark 1:38 our Lord Jesus Christ invites us no to grow fatigued, so that we can rise in flight and continue preaching his word in these times. 38 He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.”
I think that the mission of the prophet Isaiah and of Jesus had the same objective and it was always to give news of hope to the people, to his servants, to his followers in Bible times and it is for us nowadays to give a message of faith and love to the generations to come, with a voice on high saying: “Rise up, continue, preach, take the message of salvation, do not faint, and as you rise fly like an eagle with strength, with authority, let no one stop you, if you faint get back up and renew yourself. But you must arrive at your end and fulfill the mission entrusted by our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Levantate como las águilas

El Señor da fuerzas al cansado, y aumenta el vigor del que desfallece. 30 Los jóvenes se fatigan y se cansan; los más fuertes flaquean y caen; 31 pero los que confían en el Señor recobran las fuerzas y levantan el vuelo, como las águilas; corren, y no se cansan; caminan, y no se fatigan. Isaías 40:29-31
El águila es uno de los pájaros más majestuosos del planeta y lo increíble es que a algunas de ellas les sucede algo en particular al menos una vez en la vida, y a otras dos o tres veces. Ellas cambian su plumaje. Al igual que en la vida de las águilas, en la vida del creyente en Cristo habrá en uno o varios momentos determinados, un proceso de cambio de “plumaje” espiritual, el cual se caracterizará por ser un tiempo muy especial que pondrá a prueba nuestra fe.
El Señor da fuerzas al cansado, y aumenta el vigor del que desfallece. A lo largo de nuestra vida nos suceden situaciones similares, o tomas decisiones importantes en tu vida o mueres en el intento y por tanto te sientes paralizada, muchas veces los miedos e inseguridades no nos permiten encontrar las soluciones, que necesitamos para seguir y levantarte como las águilas
También puede tratarse de resentimientos, la falta de autoestima que nos nublan la vista y la capacidad de ser objetivos con nosotros mismos. Debemos de desprendernos de recuerdos que nos causan dolor. Solamente libres de la carga del pasado podremos aprovechar el valioso resultado que una renovación siempre trae consigo. Y aún así, podemos identificar cuales son las cosas y los pasos que tenemos que dar para realizar ese cambio, no nos encontramos con la suficiente fuerza y capacidad para hacerlo. Jehová les garantiza a sus siervos que les dará las fuerzas que necesiten para superar cualquier problema. “Pero los que confían en el Señor recobran las fuerzas”. Dios les da fuerzas a todos los que confían en que él puede y quiere ayudarlos.
Las águilas aprovechan las corrientes de aire, para elevarse y cuando encuentran una corriente, extienden las alas y van pasando de una corriente a otra, y esto les permite estar durante horas en el aire y consumir muy poquita energía hasta que llegan a su destino. Este ejemplo de la naturaleza nos ayuda a entender todo lo que puede hacer el poder de Dios para ayudar a las personas, cuando deciden levantarse y continuar a pesar de las circunstancias que esté pasando en la vida.
“Correrán y no se agotarán”. Los problemas de la vida pueden afectar tanto física como emocionalmente. Pero, con el poder de Dios, podemos seguir adelante. Ese poder nos da fuerzas para hacer lo correcto, sin importar lo difíciles que se pongan las cosas. Esta promesa anima a todos los siervos de Dios, ya que muchos cristianos se rinden en este punto. Pero si decidimos continuar avanzando hacia nuestro destino, nos daremos cuenta de que el Señor nos estará esperando. Allí nos encontraremos con la Roca de los siglos, la Piedra Angular en la cual reposar para que seamos bañados por la luz de su Hijo Jesucristo y renovados como las águilas.
“tendrán nuevas fuerzas; levantarán alas como las águilas; correrán y no se cansarán; caminarán y no se fatigarán.” (Isaías 40:31)..
En el evangelio de Marcos 1: 38 Nuestro Señor Jesucristo nos invita a que no nos cansemos, a que alcemos el vuelo y a que sigamos predicando su palabra en estos tiempos. 38 Él les dijo: «Vayamos a las aldeas vecinas, para que también allí predique, porque para esto he venido.»
Creo que la misión del profeta Isaias y de Jesús tenían un mismo objetivo y siempre fue dar nuevas esperanza al pueblo, a sus siervos, a sus seguidores en los tiempos bíblicos y es para nosotros hoy en día y para las nuevas generaciones venideras donde tienen un mensaje de fe, de esperanza y de amor, con una voz desde lo alto diciendo: Levántate, continua, prédica, lleva el mensaje de salvación, no desmayes, y alza vuelo como un águila con fuerzas, con autoridad, sin que nadie te detenga, si desfalleces levántate y renuévate pero debes de llegar hasta tu final, y cumple con la misión encomendada por nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Amen.
