Holy Love: The Hermeneutic

I would recommend that our brother Harper read and study the book published by Abingdon Press: The Bible and Homosexual Practice by Dr. Robert A. J. Gagnon which goes in depth throughout Scripture demonstrating in context and exegetically that such practice cannot be affirmed by Scripture. Gagnon does not just stick to six bible passages to prove his point. His scholarly, well researched work is recognized even by scholars that do not agree with him. There are excellent critical scholars who accept the traditional view of marriage and they are not fundamentalist.

Another reason the UMC is coming untied

You think Holy Love can be made plausible: "The aim of biblical interpretation must be to develop a view that is credible and plausible. Hermeneutics does not seek a right/wrong outcome; it seeks to bring together interpretive principles that make a particular interpretation worthy of our attention. Hermeneutics says, “You need to pay attention to this, and here's why.”

How can anything that is holy--different, set apart, reflecting our creator God--be simultaneously plausible to humanity? Where does Isaiah 55:9 fit into such an intermingling of plausibility and holiness?

Isaiah 55:9 New International Version (NIV)

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Yes, We all interpret, but . . .

Do we go for the truth or real meaning that God put there or do we get creative and insert what we would like it to say? Wesley was “a man of one book” - the Bible. Departing from Scripture is departing from the truth that Wesley prized above everything.
