Editor's note: The following is a verbatim reproduction of an email sent to United Methodist Insight detailing a complaint filed by members of the Southern Nigeria Annual Conference United against the Rev. Ande Emmanuel, a leader in the Africa Voice of Unity movement and a supporter of the Christmas Covenant. Four members of the Nigeria Episcopal Area cabinet previously filed a formal complaint of chargeable offenses against Rev. Emmanuel, which was submitted to Insight in photographs.
Dear Bishop Johnwesley Yohanna, Nigeria Episcopal Area
COMPLAINT FILED AGAINST REV. ANDE I. EMMANUEL OF HIS CONTINUE VIOLATION OF UMC BOOK OF DISCIPLINE
We the Cabinet members of the Southern Nigeria Annual Conference write to lodge a formal complaint against Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel for the following chargeable offences listed in Par. 2702.id of the Book of Discipline 2016.
That Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel has violated the provision of the United Methodist Church discipline by:
- “Disobedience to the order and discipline of the United Methodist church” by forming a group outside the church circle.
- That his behaviour has undermines the Ministry and the office of the Bishop by refusal to report to area of his appointment. He was assigned/appointed to be Pastor in charge of UMCN Sabon Gari charge, Taraba South District.
Considering his behaviour, the Southern Nigeria Annual Conference Cabinet members have resolved that as a Clergy, he has violated the vow of itineration Ministry.
The Cabinet is confirming to the West African College of Bishops that the action of Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel by violating and betraying his sacred trust is unacceptable. He caused so much harm, confusion, creating division,
instigating members against the Bishop, going round the Conferences in Nigeria Episcopal telling people not pay apportionment and Conference assessment (CONEFA), which is the main source of income to the General Conference and the Annual Conference. He went further to instigate some local churches, charges not to pay Pastors that are loyal to you (Bishop Johnwesley Yohanna).
Therefore, the cabinet is hereby notifying Bishop Johnwesley Yohanna that urgent action.
Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel knows what he is doing is a chargeable offence. On this note, the Cabinet is charging him for violation of United Methodist Book of Discipline Par. 2702.id (2016).
These complaints are based on the following circumstances:
- Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel call for meeting on 24/3/2021 through the support he received from his alliance liberal in U.S.A to fuel the crisis, instigating members not to pay apportionment and creating confusion.
- Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel on 28/5/2021 went to various conferences summoning meetings where he instigated members not to pay Apportionment, against the resolution of the General Conference and Nigeria Episcopal Area

We the Cabinet Southern Nigeria Annual Conference write to lodge a formal complaint against Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel for the following chargeable offences:
- “Disobedience to the order and discipline of the United Methodist Church” Par. 2702.1d, Book of Discipline 2016
- “Behavior that undermines the Ministry of another Pastor” (par 2702.1f), Book of Discipline 2016
These complaints are based on the following circumstances:-
- That:
- On the 24th March, 2021
Venue: Catholic Centre Mile six Jalingo, Taraba State.
Where he started advocating not to pay Apportionment as against the resolutions of the General Conference and the Nigeria Episcopal Area.
- On 26th May, 2021
Venue: Mutum daya, Central Nigeria Annual Conference
Vis-a-vis Northern Nigeria Annual Conference, on 27th May, 2021 where he also re-iterated his advocacy to local churches, charges and DISTRICTS NOT TO PAY APPORTIONMENT. Rev. Ande I.
Emmanuel being the Secretary of the Southern Nigeria Annual Conference and a Pastor incharge of UMCN Sabon Gari charge, Taraba South District.
- He also instigated some members during his illegal gathering, that Pastors under Episcopal appointment who did not affirmed their support to his group were subjected to hardship by instigating members not to pay them their salaries in charges and Districts.
- That Rev. Ande I. Emmanuel has refused to report to his place of appointment. See the attached appointment
- He has been invited by the District Superintendent through the Bishop which he refused. See the attached invitation letter and his respond.
