The United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries offers prayers for the return of Rev. Phyllis Sortor, a missionary through the Free Methodist Church. Sortor, who serves in Nigeria, was kidnapped and is reportedly being held for ransom.
Thomas Kemper, who leads the United Methodist mission organization, expressed his concern, saying, “We pray for the safe return of this faithful servant.” He continued, “We stand in solidarity with our sister denomination, mindful of the vulnerability of missionaries throughout the world.”
The Free Methodist Church is a member church of the World Methodist Council. It was organized in 1860 from the Methodist Episcopal Church. Sortor is from Washington state.
