Socialist Gospel is More Accurate

Let's not forget that the primary mover of Methodists for Social Action for many decades, Dr. Harry F. Ward, was a committed Communist and CPUSA party member. The Communist Party USA had long targeted religious groups as a means to advance its goals. The Methodist Church penchant for using the coercive force of the state to legislate morality, e.g., Prohibition, fit in perfectly with the objective of creating a view of government where the state reigned supreme and individuals were subsidiary to and subjugated by the state to serve the needs of the proletariat, as determined by the ruling class. However, well intentioned Dr. Watson was, I'm afraid he fell into that category of "useful idiots" that Lenin first described. Would that he had followed Christ's admonition to be "wise as serpents and innocent as doves."
