Climate Central, one of the best resources for data to help churches plan how to mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis, has issued several graphics to mark June 21 as #ShowYourStripes day—"a time to spread awareness about climate change using the iconic ‘warming stripes’ graphics showing temperature trends over the last 100+ years," says the website.
According to Climate Central, "Created by Professor Ed Hawkins at the University of Reading, the global warming stripes are a simple visual representation of the long-term rise in global temperatures due to human-caused climate change."
The non-profit climate tracker has collected data on 178 cities, 49 states, the U.S., and the globe. Sunday school classes, women's and men's groups, boards of trustees and church councils can track specific areas and general trends to help understand and respond to the climate crisis.

UWF opens 'Just Energy' grant application process
United Women in Faith's Office of Economic and Environmental Justice invites UWF groups to apply for grants to support local organizing campaigns to advance "just energy for all." That's the theme of the organization's ongoing effort for church women and their congregations to contribute to switching to 100% renewable energy and getting off fossil fuels to reduce the emissions propelling the global climate crisis.
The announcement says that funding is available "for work happening at the circle, unit, district, conference, and jurisdiction level."
"United Women in Faith groups are strongly encouraged to apply for a grant to support work that is happening collaboratively, in coalition/partnership with other organizations or groups, so long as such work involves substantial participation from local United Women in Faith members and is focused on supporting energy infrastructure projects," says the announcement.
Funding requests from $100 to $3,000 per project will be considered. The first round of applications will be reviewed July 24 and the second deadline is based on available funding Groups will be notified of grant decisions in August 2023 and funds will be disbursed to approved projects. Those efforts must be completed by September 2024.
All requests will be collected onlinw. Click Here For Application
