Associates in Advocacy will hold an online workshop Nov. 9 focused on the processes and resources to deal with racism and racial harassment in Thhe United Methodist Church.
The workshop will features Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi (Pittsburgh, Pa., Area), the newly elected president of the General Commission on Religion and Race reflecting on anti-racism efforts by The United Methodist Church.
Becky Posey Williams, senior director for sexual ethics and advocacy from the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women, will reflect on the UMC's current status regarding prevention of and response to the chargeable offense of sexual misconduct.
The Rev. Meg Lassiat of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the Rev. Robert Zilhaver of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference will present history and effects of Judicial Decision 1383 on the administrative processes of clergy.

Associates in Advocacy started in the Civil Rights Era when clergy were often accused of violating church law in order to stop their civil rights work. Today the organization consists of clergy and laity working in a variety of areas assisting those caught in unfamiliar disciplinary processes.
