healing from racism

WOW!! Thank you for your thought provoking comments.
We have all been betrayed by our racist history. When I was a child in northern Iowa the only thing I knew
about other races was what I heard in Sunday School and "Tom Sawyer" and everyone said 'nigger.' So one day at the County Seat public restroom I saw the attendant/cleaning woman, and said in an excited voice of discovery, "Look, Momma, there's a nigger lady!!!" The woman turned to my mother and lectured her on teaching her daughter to use proper language: "I am a Negro woman."
Certainly I meant no harm or insult. But we do all need to clean up our language.
