The Cancer of Liberalism has Fully Metastasized

R.I.P. UMC... But, as a believer in the Resurrection, I can believe that two new Methodist denominations can rise from this wreck. When will management accept the reality and get started?

The failure of the Right-Wing Extremists is obvious

History is not on their side. Nobody with a brain under age 45 thinks exclusion of LGBTQIAs is an appropriate stance. Those older were brainwashed into a homophobic mindset by scaremongers like Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s. Dallas itself was a hotbed of extremism. Prior to the assassination of John F. Kennedy there, extremist groups spread flyers around with Kennedy's picture headlined "Wanted for Treason." President Johnson, when Vice-President was physically assaulted as was his wife Lady Bird Johnson there a few months before, by a mob led by then-Republican Congressman Bruce Alger (who I believe was a Methodist). If Dallas is lost to the far right (and the above article shows that it is), then it is another piece of convincing evidence that the right-wing movement in the United States is essentially a rear guard action. The socially conservative New York Times pundit Ross Douthat penned a column inquiring about "terms of surrender" for the culture war. In 20 years, the loudest voices against full inclusion of LGBTQIAs will be claiming they never said what they say now. The culture war is ending, not with a bang but with a whimper, in T.S. Eliot's useful phrase.
