United Methodist bishops in Africa are remaining firm in their refusal to consider breaking up the global denomination over the issue of human sexuality, according to an address by the continent's first female United Methodist bishop.
The Rev. Dr. Wes Magruder, a Global Ministries missionary currently serving at Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary in Durban, South Africa, posted on Facebook a video of Bishop Nhanala's address to the South Africa Annual Conference. He gave United Methodist Insight permission to republish his post and video:
"If you are one of my United Methodist friends concerned about General Conference 2020, here's a different perspective ...
"Last weekend, Leah Cole Magruder and I attended the Annual Conference of the South Africa AC under the leadership of Bishop Joaquina Nhanala. In her episcopal address, she spoke bluntly about events, including the stance of the African bishops. I've edited it down into a six and half minute video so that you can hear for yourself. Her take on money and voting is especially interesting ..."
We suggest paying special attention to the bishop's remarks toward the end about money and voting.
