Pass Right to Repair The UMC

Some of our more conservative friends and family members seem to "Proof Text" the Bible. They pick and choose what is important and what is superfluous. They do not, I am sure, stll believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth, They do not believe that seizures are caused by "demons." Why then do they pick a small portion of the O. T. to prove that someone who is LBGT is a "sinner?" Dear conservative friends, since 1976 it has been known that being LBG or T are inborn characteristics, not chosen ones. Please do not keep putting new wine in those old wine skins.

I think you misunderstand

It is not just one small portion of the O. T. That speaks to the sin. Romans, 2 Corinthians and 2 Timothy all reinforce God’s will that homosexuality is a sin and marriage is between a man and a woman.

As to LGBT traits being inborn, it is not the traits we find sinful, it is the LGBT behavior which we find as sinful. My father was an alcoholic from a family of alcoholics. Knowing his proclivity to alcoholism, he still CHOSE to drink, Similarly LGBT individuals have a proclivity towards sinful behavior and yet they still CHOOSE to engage in that behavior. It is their sinful behavior which we reject, not the individual themselves. I believe in hate the sin, but love the sinner and that most Traditionalists feel likewise.

I do not pick a small portion of the OT

But the reality is you are not going to change your mind and I am not going to change mine. We are both flawed human beings who each have our very valid reasons for believing like we do. I respect your right to disagree with me. Let us find something else to talk about. Have a blessed day.
